  • Criteria: Proof of a monthly passive income of at least US$2,000 for five years from foreign sources (pensions, investments, rental properties). 

    • Transfer of this income to a Dominican Republic bank account.

  • Benefits: Relatively simple application process, potential for citizenship after several years.

 4. Residency for Work (Labor): 

  • Criteria: Valid job offer from a Dominican Republic company with approval from the Ministry of Labor.

 5. Family Reunification (Reunificación Familiar):

Is it Hard to Get Residency in the Dominican Republic?

The difficulty of obtaining Dominican residency depends on the chosen category.

  • Generally easier: Residency by Investment, Residency for Retirees/Pensioners, Residency for Independent Means. These have clear financial requirements and streamlined processes.

  • More complex: Residency for Work requires employer sponsorship and Ministry of Labor approval. Family Reunification involves proving your relationship to a Dominican citizen/resident.

Can You Live in the Dominican Republic as a US Citizen?

Absolutely! US citizens can live in the Dominican Republic. Here are your options:

  1. Tourist Visa: Valid for 30 days, extendable for another 30 days. Not suitable for long-term stays.
